Dr Ria Shah completed her MBBS from MGM Institute of Health Sciences, Mumbai and chose to do her externship from the renowned KEM hospital, Mumbai. She received her medical doctorate from D.Y. Patil University (Gold Medallist), Mumbai, India in 2018. During her residency she also showcased her research at the European Respiratory Society International Congress. Following residency she joined the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai in the Pulmonary Medicine Department, Thoracic DMG, where she acquired profound experience in managing lung cancer cases, pulmonary side effects of immunotherapy, chemotherapy and radiation, coexisting lung infections and cancer, preoperative fitness, management post op Pulmonary complications. This journey helped her to realise the burden on cancer patients and their families. With participation in tumour boards and multidisciplinary discussions here, it further strengthened that cancer management should be based upon collaborative care.
Thereafter, she ranked 1st in the HERMES exam amongst Asia and Australia in 2018, attaining the European Board certification of European Diploma in Respiratory Medicine. She acquired her DNB in Respiratory Medicine, next.
Thereafter, she joined the establishment of Lung Care and Sleep Centre, Institute of Pulmonology Research and Development and Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai as a clinical associate under the mentorship of Dr Prashant Chhajed. Here she gained immense experience in systematic and guideline-based management of patients of Interstitial Lung Disease, Sleep apnea and multisystem diseases with lung involvement. She also received training for successfully performing Endobronchial Ultrasound guided biopsies and advanced bronchoscopic procedures.
She also has keen interest in clinical research and has been actively involved in academic and editorial contributions. She has co-authored 10 clinical research papers in indexed journals with focus on pulmonary interventions and infections. She has served as an abstract reviewer and chaired poster sessions at the European Respiratory Society International Congress. From a very early stage in her career, she has been invited as faculty in multiple conferences, most of which are focused on Cancer updates.
She is a member of the Indian Chest Society, European Respiratory Society, Indian Association of Bronchology, Clinical Society Infectious Diseases and Association of Medical Consultants.
Currently she is a Pulmonary Consultant at Breach Candy Hospital, Lung Care and Sleep Centre, Nanavati Hospital, Saifee Hospital and Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai.
She has established Pulmonary Care in Oncology clinics under mentorship of and with Dr Prashant Chhajed in Mumbai, which is based on their passion and expertise towards managing cancer patients with lung complications.
She continues to successfully manage all types of pulmonology patients at Sanyukth Respiratory Centre.
